Sunday was very hectic, from the point of view that I was at! We had DMT included for the first time in our regional competition and hopefully it did not cause too much trouble to any of our performers. I barely knew it was on and saw nothing of it. Being seated at the far end of the venue, opposite end from the DMT, our panel of judges didn’t even realise it had begun or finished.
Well, today was a good day for the club. We had 11 people entered spread out fairly evenly throughout the day.
U19G – G – Georgina Welton put in two sound performances and has graded up to F. Well done.
U15G F – Emily Gaunt – again Emily did two good routines and finished in 3rd place but unfortunately this did not get her a grading position to the next level. I hope she has better luck next time!
U13G E – Phoebe Daniel took part in her first E grade. She did well finishing in 6th place with a score of 46.5.
U15G E - Susanne Chester and Emily Tyson took part in this category for the club. Emily Tyson finished in 3rd place and more importantly for her graded up to D grade. Emily more than anything else just wanted to grade up, she would happily have traded her trophy for this, but as a bonus to finishing on the podium many times before (at least 3 competitions!) she finally graded up. Susanne put in two solid performances and finished in 13th place with a score of 48.6. Hopefully Susanne will join the others soon in D grade – next time perhaps?
U19G E – Imogen Knibbs and Laura Everton – Both girls performed really well (they were on my panel and I had to judge them, which is always difficult). Imogen finished in 7th place with a score of 48.8. Laura was high up after the first round, but “overcooked” her last move in her final, which meant she performed 11 moves. This went against her to the degree that she had a whole mark taken away from her final score by all the panel judges. This then dropped her down to 23rd place which was really bad luck. Until then she was on target for a possible grading up or would have been very close, by about 0.03! I am sure Laura will do better next time.
U15G D – Emily Mills and Emma Richardson. Both girls were again on my panel. Emma Richards eventually finished in 3rd place with a score of 50.3. If there had been more people in that grade, as she finished just outside of the top 20%, she would have graded up to National Level. As it was, she finished in 3rd place followed closely by Emily Mills in 5th place. Both girls performed well and next time they will become a team with the inclusion of Emily Tyson.
U159G D – Tasha Jardine and Gemma Osborne. – Once again I was judging these girls. Tasha had a lovely warm up for her last set routine and then very wobbly when she performed it, which was a real shame. Her vol was much better and included all the difficulty that she had been hoping to put in. She qualified for the finals and finished in 5th place with 49.0. Gemma Osborne put in 3 solid routines and graded up to National C, which was really good as it was Gemma’s first D competition. She will now be working really hard towards her National Set routine and some more difficulty.
Well done to all and thanks again to all officials that gave up their day for this event.
